A Russian man stole a bikini from Mike department store in Pattaya, intended to give to his wife. He ran away after being requested to be searched. He was chased until he could not go any further then pulled out the bikini that he hid in his pants and threw it on the beach. He claimed for his innocence, but surrendered at the end. The price of bikini plus the fine, totally 10,500 Baht he had to pay.
On the 28 July 2007, at 00.30 am, Pol.Lt.Col. Santi Chainiranam, was notified by Miss Wanwisa Phoonkasem, (27), a Sale Manager for Jenzen clothing and underwear shop on the second floor of Mike shopping mall, Pattaya beach road, Moo 9, Nongprue, Banglamung, Chonburi, that a security and herself had caught a foreign guy who stole a bikini from the shop.
Arriving at Mike shopping mall, police met Miss Wanwisa and the security who had detained a foreign thief. The evidence is a black and white Jenzen swimwear, price of 1,790 baht, which was dumped on the beach. The thief is Mr. Suprunenko Sergay (37) from Russia. He denied and became noisy. He claimed that he and his wife stay at Seaview Resort, room No. 1315. He came shopping at Mike shopping mall with his wife and friends, and they were on the way back.
However, Miss Wanwisa told police that Mr. Sergay with his wife and friends, altogether five of them, were looking around for an hour, but did not decide to buy anything. She was suspicious that these group of people had a tendency to steal something as they asked her to go change money for them, but she refused,
After they all left the shop, the instinct told Miss Wanwisa that something might be missing and she found out that one bikini that Mr. Sergay was interested in specially was gone. She immediately called the security to look for those Russian group, and found them were on the way out of the mall. The security requested to search but Mr.Sergay suddenly ran away. She and security chased him until he could not go any further, then Mr. Sergay pulled out the bikini that he pinched from the shop out of his pants and threw it on the beach. Shamelessly, he claimed that he is innocence.
Miss Wanwisa asked him to pay for the price of bikini which is 1,790 baht, otherwise he had to pay ten times fine but Mr. Sergay refused, so she reported to police. Mr. Sergay was arrested and charged for stealing at night time. Eventually, he surrendered and had to pay for the price of goods and ten times fine according the rules of department store. Both parties had a compromise on the whole amount and Mr. Sergay paid 10,500 baht at the end. Police took the daily record and released Mr. Sergay.
