According to George Nicholas, the Chairman of Caribbean Airlines, passengers have already seen some downward movement in fares and this trend will continue.
He outlined some of the factors that will allow the airline to reduce the cost of traveling.
"(The) efficiencies that we get now with joining with Air Jamaica, common fleeting, the use of one reservation system, pooling our intelligence and pooling our resources, so we have economy to scale that very few carriers in the region have."
More workers to be hired
And several months after carrying out staff cuts at Air Jamaica, Caribbean Airlines said it is looking to hire a small number of new employees at the ‘Lovebird’.
Mr. Nicholas said the hiring will coincide with the expansion of Air Jamaica's fleet of aircraft.
"We are looking to hire a few more (workers) now. We’re sad that some had to be let go but we did manage to keep (about) 600 people and we will need more (workers) to grow," he said.
Mr. Nicholson was speaking on RJR’s daily current affairs discussion programmeBeyond The Headlines Wednesday evening, July 20.
He added that some current employees, who were given six month contracts, will likely have them renewed.
