http://lyw.sh.gov.cn/en/faq/15.html Question: What are the regulations on foreign tourists’ application for Transit Without Visa (TWOV) in Shanghai?
Answer:
As Shanghai is currently the only city in mainland China which has two intenational airports——Pudong International Airport and Hongqiao intenational airport, the following service procedures have been approved by the relevant authorities to provide convenience to foreign travelers who transit through the above two airports in Shanghai.
(l) Starting from January l , 2000, all foreign travelers who transit via Shanghai Pudong intenational airport or Hongqiao intenational airport within 24 hours will be exempt from transit visa.
(2) Passengers from some foreign countries who transit via Pudong International Airport or Hongqiao International Airport within 48 hours will also enjoy the same transit visa-free status. No service fee will be charged on foreign passengers undergoing procedures for exemption of transit visa.
Foreign passengers who need to find out more about the above relevant regulations can seek information from Division of Aliens and Exit Entry Administration of The Shanghai Municipal Public Security Bureau.
