Статья в Moscow News о новом тайском ресторане Dee Thai.
Вроде все хорошо, одна только проблема - мы его найти не смогли. То есть его там физически не обнаружено. Причем в более раннем номере этой же газеты говорилось, что там обедают сотрудники тайского посольства.
Dee Thai, dee place for Southeast Asian cuisine
The food turned out to be well worth the annoyance of searching for the place. The menu has a solid selection of standard Thai fare, such as tom yum kung soup, satays and curries, as well as the Thai chef's own original creations, some incorporating exotic ingredients such as venison and rabbit. The prices are surprisingly modest, considering that it's only three minutes away from Red Square. Soups are less than 300 roubles, appetizers are about 250 roubles and mains in the 300- to 600-rouble range. Portions are not at all stingy, either, so be careful not to order too much.
I was converted into a Dee Thai enthusiast as soon as the intensely tart and spicy tom yum kung soup arrived. The prawns in the soup were impressively large and meaty, the broth full of flavor and accentuated by the fresh citrus tang of lemongrass. The soup was closely followed by the appetizers, both piping hot. The succulent chicken satay was well complemented by the nutty sweet peanut paste, and the crispy spring rolls were not filled with some spurious substitute (as is often the case in Asian eateries) but real shrimp, and a lot of it. The portions were so generous that by the time the main came around (and I was not kept waiting long), I was too full to enjoy it. The pad Thai noodles seemed a bit bland in taste and texture after all the spiciness, tartness, crispiness and nuttiness, but I eventually revised my opinion - one cannot eat palate-stimulating foods all the time. The dessert menu seems a bit sad, with only two items, fried bananas and coconut milk with banana, as Thai choices. Maybe the tiramisu and chocolate ice cream are good, but I'd hoped for a more exotic turnout.
All the dishes were beautifully decorated with carved vegetables, and I had absolutely nothing to complain about. The service does not leave anything to be desired, and the friendly Indian manager speaks fluent English - try to make friends with him and see if you can get a discount card that can also be used at the affiliated restaurants Darbars and Aozora, which are both in the hotel Sputnik on Leninsky Prospekt. My one fervent hope is that the management will be able to keep prices this low for a long time to come.
