7:25 a.m. Auckland to Wellington (The Overlander)
Departs Auckland at 7:25 a.m.
Arrives Wellington at 7:25 p.m.
The Overlander Express leaves metropolitan Auckland behind and travels swiftly through the market
garden areas of Pukekohe and into the lush farmlands of the Waikato Valley to Ngaruawahia and
Hamilton City. Te Awamutu and Otorohanga were the northern boundaries of the Maori King
movement, which disputed European land acquisitions. South of Te Kuiti the 32km tunnel leads to
the picturesque Ongarue River Valley, which is a prelude to the dramatic and spectacular Raurimu
Spiral, which takes us up on to the National Park plateau. We skirt the mountains of the National
park, travel on through Waiouru and Taihape before descending onto the Manawatu Plains with its
rich cropping and sheep farming country. The horticultural farms around Levin are a prelude to the
spectacular rocky seascapes which lead us into the Capital City, Wellington, arriving at 7.25 p.m.

and transferred to your accommodation.
