I am so sorry to hear that your friend has had a bad experience, as you said this is not good for our Tourist Industry.
First and foremost, please let me assure you we have no affiliations/association with Trail Master. We are a registered Licensed Travel Agent, this is not something that we need to do by law in the Territory, it is something that we have chosen to do, to become a reputable agent. We have been in business for over 7 years now, and pride ourselves on customer service.
Your vehicle is booked with THL, who owns Britz, Maui & Backpackers, and are the largest supplier of Campervans & Motorhomes in Australia & New Zealand. You have booked an economy 4WD Off-Roader, so you vehicle is between 3 and 5 years old, and is maintained regularly. You have also taken option 2 reduction excess so there is no $5000 bond to be taken, only a $440 Bond, which is an authorisation only, no taken, in case you bring your vehicle back not full of fuel, or excessively dirty.
Now back to your friend.If they have
not notified your friend of any damages or claims against his $5000 bond, then the next thing you need to do is :
1.Write a letter stating all details of rental and dates, stating that you have made several attempts to contact and
if your friend has times dates and names of conversations.At the end of the letter give them time to respond eg:
10 days, at this time tell them that you are taking further action if they do not refund by that date.(you could also
say that to date this amount does not include interest on the credit card)

Send this detailed letter to them by email, fax and registered post.
This will let them know that you are not going to let it go.
3. If no response,
you should contact Consumer & Business Affairs in Darwin : I have put their website below:
http://www.caba.nt.gov.au/ or write to them at : GPO Box 1722, Darwin.Australia. NT 0801.
I spoke briefly to them this morning telling them the info you have given me, and the said they encourage your
friend to write to them. This department in Australia investigates issues and complaints and get results, as they have
the authority to do so, they have the authority to make business, responsible for actions. They will follow through
until they get the results. This is definitely who your friend should be talking to.
