Handing in your work permit and visa application forms from within Germany is only possible for expats from a few selected countries (Canada, the US, Australia, Israel, New Zealand, Japan, and South Korea).

Citizens of Australia, Israel, Canada, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand and the United States can apply for the Residence Permit for Employment after arriving in Germany. If you are from one of these countries, you can enter Germany visa-free for a 90-day period, after which you can apply for a residence permit with an appropriate work contract.
In addition, if you are from Australia, Israel, Canada, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand or the United States, you are not subjected to a rigorous priority check when applying for a work permit/employment visa. Therefore, you can apply for a work permit with any job and you do not require relevant qualifications or a university degree.
Citizens from all other countries must apply for an Employment Visa before entering Germany.
