Thank you for your email received the 19th September, 2011 regarding the UK travel of your dog between the UK and the Czech Republic (which is a PETS listed country). Your email advises that currently you do not own the dog, therefore, the Pet Travel Scheme (PETS) rules for UK entry are those that apply from the 1st January, 2012. This is because the current UK PETS preparations would not be completed before the 1st January, 2012 and on this date the UK pet travel rules will have changed to harmonise with those of the European Union.
Please be advised that in order to export your pet to the Czech Republic (and generally the EU), the following preparations must be carried out, in the order shown below:
1) Pet is micro-chipped, then
2) Rabies vaccinated (in accordance with the data of the manufacturer but generally at a minimum age of 3 months)
21 days from the date of vaccination and with a pet passport (available from a vet), your dog should be eligible for entry into the Czech Republic. Please note these preparations will also allow your pet to re-enter the UK from a listed country (all EU is PETS listed) without the need for quarantine AS FROM THE 1ST JANUARY, 2012.
You may wish to contact the Embassy of the Czech Republic in the UK to discuss their specific lawful entry requirements. They can be located at the following link: http://www.fco.gov.uk/en/travel-and-liv ... -in-the-uk
Their telephone number in the UK is:- 0207 243 1115
A link to their website follows:- http://www.svscr.cz/index.php?art=1561
If your travel arrangements are not direct and you will transit other countries you may wish to contact their UK Embassies for advice on any additional entry requirements (to those shown above) that they may have. Their contact details can all be found in the first web-link shown.
For UK entry/re-entry from the 1st January, 2012 in addition to the preparations shown at (1 and 2) above, please note that UK, requirements for tapeworm treatment are to still to be confirmed so you are advised to check the DEFRA website prior to travel. Entry into the UK must be via an authorised carrier on a PETS approved route (please see the web-link below):-

Please be advised that you will need to contact the travel companies direct with regard to transportation costs as these are commercial decisions of which DEFRA has no part.
