(MENAFN Press) Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC) plans to build a car plant in Rayong Province, central Thailand, and begin production there in the summer of 2010.
The Suzuki Group will establish a manufacturing company with a capital of USD 90,580,000 (about ?10 billion) and invest USD 287,000,000 (about ?31.4 billion) in the construction of the plant. Suzuki plans call for the plant to have about 1,200 employees when full production is under way.
Suzuki's announcement follows the recent approval by the Thai Government of a Suzuki plan to produce fuel-efficient eco-cars in line with a national project. In accordance with Thai requirements, the plant will have sufficient capacity to build at least 100,000 units per year from the fifth year of operation, giving Suzuki the ability to supply eco-cars not only to Thailand but also to neighboring countries.
Suzuki vehicles are currently sold in Thailand by Suzuki Automobile (Thailand), a Suzuki Motor Corporation subsidiary.
