Dutchman arrested for office hold-up

PHUKET CITY: -- A down-on-his-luck Dutchman was arrested yesterday for the June 15 robbery of the management office of Phuket Villa California residential development.

The man, identified as Jeroen De Valk, 35, allegedly made away with 74,000 baht – but not before CCTV cameras recorded his motorcycle license plate number.

On June 15, a man dressed in black walked into the offices of Phuket Villa California on Chao Fa East Rd with a replica gun and demanded money. Rungruedee Engchuan, the lone office worker at the time, ran for cover while the man searched through the office, eventually making off with the money.

Col Chalit Thintanee, Deputy Commander of Phuket Provincial Police, said that although the man’s face was not visible in the CCTV recording the license plate was clear and led to yesterday’s arrest of De Valk.

At a press conference last night, police said De Valk has lived in Thailand for six months, bought a house on credit and set up a clothing store with a Thai woman – but the store was not making money.

The gun used in the hold-up turned out to be of the variety used for lighting cigarettes, not shooting bullets.

Swedish man found dead after eating spicy som tam
Girlfriend says it may have been the food

A 40-year-old Swede was found dead in a Thai friend's house yesterday, following complaints of diarrhoea after eating som tam (papaya salad) and sator (stinkbeans). Sattahip police were alerted by Sopa Kula, 29, that her Swedish boyfriend, Lars Mikaes Gustafsson, was found dead in a room in a house in Sattahip district.

Ms Sopa told police she met the Swedish wholesaler in Koh Chang in April this year.

Gustafsson flew from Sweden to visit her on Wednesday and had been staying in a spare room in a one-storey house of her friend, Thaowan Yothorn.

Ms Sopa and her friend cooked two dishes of spicy northeastern-style papaya salad, one mixed with pudong (fermented crab) and another mixed with plara (fermented fish) for lunch on Friday. They ate the salads with sator, a strong smelling flat, edible bean.

Gustafsson only tasted a little of the food as he found it too hot for him, she said.

After a while, Gustafsson developed diarrhoea, police quoted Ms Sopa as saying.

Police said she offered to take him to a doctor, but he refused.

He told her he did not need to see the doctor as he had already taken some medicine to treat the diarrhoea, she said.

Ms Sopa said she left him and Ms Thaowan late on Friday evening and returned to her own home.

She said she then went to check up on him at around 9.30am yesterday and found his naked, dead body in the room.

Sattahip police said even though Ms Sopa believed he died of severe diarrhoea, police have not yet concluded the cause of death and will send his body for an autopsy before taking any further action.

A preliminary investigation found no trace of physical assault on the body, nor any suggestion that anything had been stolen from his room, police said.

Body of Woman found in Well.
Police Sub-Lieutenant Winai from Banglamung Police Station along with Sawang Boriboon Rescue Workers made their way to Soi Sukumvit 41 in the early hours of Friday Morning after reports of a fatality were received. At the scene, Police were met by Khun Soojai aged 40 who is married to Khun Ran aged 53 who went missing earlier in the night. After a search, she was found at the bottom of a well after apparently falling face-first into the deep hole. Rescue Workers extricated the body and initial inspections showed no signs of foul play. Khun Soojai explained that around 8pm, the victim was heavily intoxicated and complaining she was very hot. She was seen walking towards the Well and was not seen until her body was discovered 4 hours later. Although this appears to be a tragic accident, Police are not discounting the theory that she may have been pushed in to the Well or even murdered prior to falling into the Well. A post mortem examination is now underway.


Immigration Police Arrest Uzbekistani Prostitutes Again.
At around 3:30am on Thursday Immigration police led by Colonel Itipon swooped on Walking Street and rounded up 22 Uzbekistani nationals, all of them female, and took them back to the Immigration offices in Jomtien to be charged with engaging in prostitution.
Ten of the Uzbekistani women were found to have expired passports, and these ladies of easy virtue will be locked up before being deported. The remaining dozen, whose passports and visas were all in order, were fined, slapped on the wrist and told to go forth and not spend their evenings lying on their backs as this can cause substantial weight gain
Wife and Accomplice Arrested for Murdering Husband.
Police in Bangkok contacted Banglamung officers on Sunday night and instructed them to go to a shop in Naklua where they were assured they would find the body of the 45 year old Thai owner of the business.
Breaking into the building, Banglamung police and Sawang Boriboon Rescue Volunteers found the body in question in the bathroom at the rear of the shop wrapped in clear plastic and with hands tied by cable. He had a deep abrasion to the back of his head.
The victim had allegedly been murdered the previous day by his 44 year old wife aided by her 28-year-old lady boy friend. The pair had then fled to Bangkok where the wife went to police and attempted to have her ladyboy friend arrested for the murder.
Bangkok police doubted the wife was telling the whole truth and under intensive interrogation she finally admitted she had aided in her husband’s untimely demise. Her reason, naturally, was money. Her husband was quite well off financially and she didn’t want just half, she wanted the whole lot.
The wife and her accomplice will be extradited to Pattaya in coming days to face murder charges.

German shot dead in PattayaPattaya, Chon Buri - A 63-year-old German man was shot dead late Sunday night police said.

Heinrich Hermann Friedrdch waas shot dead shortly after leaving a convenient store on Soi Suksomboon in Tambon Nong Palai of Chon Buri's Bang Lamung district at 11:27 pm.

He was shot four times by a pillion rider. The bullets hit his left temple, his back, his chest and left leg.

His Thai wife, Nantha Sukdee, 25, said she has been living with the German man for two years without registering their marriage.

She said the man had bought a house worth Bt5 million under the name of his former Thai wife whom she was suing for the return of the house and other assets.
