A British man was arrested for allegedly luring a US Vietnam War veteran into investing in a condo, making false claims about its true value, police said.

British national Craig Rhodes, 45, and Thai wife Piyaporn Junthorn, 38, were arrested on Monday in Pattaya.

They reportedly defrauded a retired US army officer James Russell Generazzo, 61, out of Bt45 million to be invested in a Pattaya condominium project.

Police Colonel Jaruwat Waisaya said Generazzo claimed the suspects took Bt45 million from him when the 10rai of land for the condo was only worth Bt32 million.

Generazzo became suspicious after the condo had not been built four months later.

He then checked the land price and demanded Bt13 million back from the couple. After reportedly receiving death threats, Generazzo went to the police, Jaruwat said
