Day 1: Depart Papeete (1800)
Board our expedition vessel the MV Braveheart in the port of Papeete in time to complete customs formalities and familiarize yourself with the ship prior to our departure.
Day 2: At Sea
Day 3: Flint Island (0800—1600)
Flint Island is an uninhabited coral atoll in the central Pacific Ocean, part of the Southern Line Islands under the jurisdiction of Kiribati.
Day 4: At Sea
Days 5 & 6: Penryhn Island (1200—1600)
Penrhyn (also called Tongareva, Mangarongaro, Hararanga, and Te Pitaka) is the most remote and largest atoll of the 15 Cook Islands in the south Pacific Ocean. A large passage in the lagoon allows the Braveheart to enter its sheltered waters.
Days 7 & 8 : At Sea
Day 9: Jarvis Island (0800—1700)
Jarvis Island formerly known as Bunker Island) is an uninhabited 4.5 square kilometer (1.75 sq. mile) coral island located in the South Pacific Ocean at 0°22′S 160°01′WCoordinates: 0°22′S 160°01′W, about halfway between Hawaii and the Cook Islands. It is an unincorporated, unorganized territory of the United States.
Day 10: At Sea
Day 11: Washington Island (0800—1600)
Teraina, also known as Washington Island (both names are constitutional) is a coral atoll in the central Pacific Ocean and part of the Northern Line Islands which belongs to Kiribati.
Days 12 & 13: Palmyra Island (0900—0900)
Palmyra Atoll is an unoccupied equatorial Northern Pacific atoll administered as an unorganized incorporated territory by the United States federal government. Palmyra is one of the Northern Line Islands (southeast of Kingman Reef and north of Kiribati Line Islands), located almost due south of the Hawaiian Islands, roughly halfway between Hawaii and American Samoa. The atoll is 4.6 sq mi (12 km2), and it is located in the equatorial Northern Pacific Ocean. Its 9 mi (14 km) of coastline has one anchorage known as West Lagoon.
Days 14: Kingman Reef (1300—1800)
Kingman Reef is a largely submerged, uninhabited triangular shaped reef, 9.5 nautical miles (18 km) east-west and 5 nautical miles (9 km) north-south, located in the North Pacific Ocean, roughly half way between the Hawaiian Islands and American Samoa at 6°23′N 162°25′W.It is the northernmost of the Northern Line Islands and lies 36 nautical miles (67 km) northwest of the next closest island Palmyra Atoll.
Days 15—18 : At Sea
Day 19: Baker Island (0800—1700)
Baker Island is an uninhabited atoll located just north of the equator in the central Pacific Ocean about 3,100km southwest of Honolulu. The island covers 2.1km2 with an equatorial climate that consists of little rainfall, constant wind and strong sunshine. The terrain is low-lying and sandy, a coral island surrounded by low fringing reef.
Day 20: At Sea
Day 21: Gardner Island (0800—1700)
Nikumaroro or Gardner Island is part of the Phoenix Islands, Kiribati. It is a remote elongated triangular coral atoll with profuse vegetation and a large central marine lagoon. Although occupied at various times during the past the island is uninhabited today. It is known for being one possible location where pilot Amelia Earhart crashed on her ill-fated final flight.
Days 22 & 23: At Sea
Day 24: Atafu Island (0800—1200)
Formerly known as the Duke of York Group this is a group of 42 Coral islets within Tokelau. Covering just 2.5km2 it is the smallest of the three islands that constitute Tokelau, and is composed of an atoll surrounding a central lagoon.
Day 25 : Swains Atoll (1300—1800)
Culturally a part of Tokelau it is an unincorporated unorganized territory of the United States administered by American Samoa. Owned by the Jennings family and used as a copra plantation, Swains Island has a population of 37 Tokelauans who harvest the islands coconuts.
Day 26: Arrive Apia, Western Samoa (1300)
Arrive in Apia, capital of Western Samoa this afternoon and end our expedition. * Please note that we have allowed an additional two days contingency in the itinerary in the event of bad weather we have the option to use these at any of the islands named in this itinerary. These days are available at no additional cost and there is no refund if they are not required. It is recommended that you do not plan to depart Apia before the evening of day 28 ( December 1st, 2013)
