Take a tour to Christchurch's International Antarctic Centre for a taste of the South Pole; ride the Hagglund snow cat; see live penguins and experience a range of interactive displays so that you can literally see, touch and feel what it takes to survive the South Pole. There is much to see and do.
Afterwards, take a scenic drive to the city where you will have time to visit the impressive Christchurch Botanic Gardens, the Museum or enjoy some of the entertainment and activities at the Events Village in Hagley Park.
The International Antarctic Centre features hands on exhibits, video presentations, laser holograms and stereo sound bring the frozen continent to life. Follow the Antarctic seasons, witness the aurora and observe life in a penguin rookery. You will also be able to experience the temperatures of a real snow cave.
You can don cold-weather gear and experience an arctic snowstorm. See what it feels like to be inside an ice cave. Of course, you won't want to pass up visiting the penguins.
During your Antarctic Centre experience you can take a ride on the H�gglund, a tracked, and amphibious vehicle used in Antarctica, for an exhilarating ride over mounds, up and over a steep hill, across a crevasse, through a pool of water and onto open ground.
Screening in the 4D EXTREME Theatre is 'Ice Voyage'. This experience will take you on a cruise to Antarctica, with unexpected excitement and adventure. Moving seats, wind in your face, water spray, bubbles and snow. Ice Voyage is the closest you'll get to cruising in Antarctic waters without leaving the comfort of your movie seat.
Allow some time to visit the Antarctic Shop with its extensive range of Antarctic and New Zealand souvenirs and clothing or stop for a refreshments in the Antarctic Caf� & Bar (own cost).
Leaving the Antarctic Centre travel to the city, driving past Hagley Park, the Avon River, the Bridge of Remembrance to the Christchurch Botanic Gardens. Nestled in a bend of the Avon River, the Botanic Gardens were established in 1863. The gardens span an area of 75 acres hosting without doubt the finest collection of exotic and indigenous plants to be found anywhere in New Zealand. The gardens are an oasis in the city of Christchurch offering conifers and maples, roses, and seasonal flower displays, several conservatories, memorials, garden art and walking tracks.
Departing from Christchurch, we return to Akaroa.
The Lord of the Rings trilogy was shot entirely in New Zealand with as many as nine individual units filming in remote and beautiful areas. This easy full day tour features the best of this dazzling landscape! Continuing your motorcoach sightseeing drive you'll head inland towards the heart of the spectacular Southern Alps. Get out and stretch your legs when you arrive at Lake Clearwater but don't forget to bring along your camera. Enjoy the relaxing stroll to the lake viewpoint where you can take in the panorama of mountains, forest, and a small village of holiday homes: the perfect backdrop for this alpine jewel. The breathtaking views over the lake to the Southern Alps will leave you with lasting memories.
The next stop on your itinerary is Mt. Potts Station, home of Edoras, where you will experience first-hand why this remote and beautiful location was chosen for the epic Lord of the Rings trilogy. You will have free time to explore this magical landscape and even have the opportunity to have your photo taken with Lord of the Rings replica swords.
You'll then travel a short distance to your lunch location at Mt. Potts Lodge. Sit down to a delicious picnic lunch, including gourmet sandwiches and cake, fruit, a glass or two of New Zealand bubbly, tea, coffee and juice. Nestled at the base of the Southern Alps, Mt. Potts Lodge enjoys fantastic scenery in New Zealand's famous High Country, so go ahead and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and beautiful setting.
But soon it will be time to start your journey back to your ship, sightseeing back across the Canterbury Plains to Little River Township and then climbing to the Hilltop views of the Banks Peninsula before descending to the Akaroa bays for an unforgettable adventure from beginning to end.
Explore independently while enjoying the convenience of pre-arranged transportation between your ship and Christchurch. You'll set the pace and choose the places you want to see with ample time to wander from one intriguing landmark to another. At the time specified by your driver/guide, the motorcoach will depart from the same point for the return drive to Akaroa and your waiting ship.
Your motorcoach departs Akaroa and travels around the small bays around the harbour, up to the Hilltop and then passing the township of Little River and Tai Tapu, heading to Christchurch City. Your tour driver will give you a brief orientation and point out the places of interest that you might like to visit during your time in the city.
Begin your adventure near the Christchurch visitor information centre. Places of interest include the Canterbury Museum; punting on the Avon River; the Botanic Gardens, the Events Village in Hagley Park and the Cashel Street Mall shopping precinct with the iconic Ballantynes department store.
The Canterbury Museum, housed in a beautiful stone building, first opened in 1870 with just over 25,000 specimens on display. Today, there are over 2 million, and is still considered among the best in the world for its natural and human history collections. You won't want to miss the outstanding Maori exhibits, a Victorian Christchurch Street, an extensive Antarctic collection and interactive fun for the children in Discovery. General admission to the Museum is free, although donations are appreciated.
The Christchurch Botanic Gardens were established in 1863, the gardens span an area of 21 hectares hosting without doubt the finest collection of exotic and indigenous plants to be found anywhere in New Zealand. Guided walks of the gardens are available or you can explore at your own pace or for those who do not wish to walk, book a ride on the Caterpillar, at your own cost, which will take you on an informative tour.
The Christchurch Events Village located in Hagley Park hosts a range of arts and crafts stalls, activities and entertainment, including many international performers. Soak up the atmosphere and stroll amongst the activities or relax beside the river and watch the people go by.
Please be mindful that this excursion is non-guided and is exclusive of lunch and entrance fees. Local currency will be required for entrance to some attractions and lunch, you should plan to either exchange your money onboard the ship or at a currency exchange in the previous port.

Для Пимлико - у нас с Вами одинаковый отель в Сиднее ( только даты разные) мы будем там до круиза - но могу обрадовать информацией (хотя может Вы и в курсе) отель принимает на хранение багаж - 2 бакса за чемодан в сутки. Вот только вопрос по прибытию в Сидней - вопрос в принципе интетесен для многих кто на форуме- прибываем утром в Сидней - конечно хочется куда - нибудь поехать ( это для тех кто не только остается в Сиднее ночевать - им проще - они едут в отель - а для тех кто как мы например и вот еще пара из УФЫ ( УЛЕТАЕМ ВЕЧЕРОМ ИЗ СИДНЕЯ) куда багаж то девать. Я задала вопрос БРИЗ ЛАЙНУ - есть ли камеры хранения в круизном терминале - ну чтобы не таскаться с чемоданами- ждем ответа. На всех англоязычных сайтах ответ неутешительный - ближайшие камеры хранения жд. Вокзал. Поделитесь - кто чего придумал по этому вопросу.
