Да и пусть пропадают...
Помимо миллиона миль, два других призера лотереи также получили по 250 000 миль
The new Emirates Friendship Hospital ship, funded by generous donations from Emirates passengers and Skywards members, is currently taking shape in the Bangladeshi capital, Dhaka. The catamaran's upper deck and wheelhouse will be completed in early July and work will then start on the interior.
When it goes into service next year, the hospital will travel along the northern Jumana River, providing healthcare to the communities existing on its chars or nomadic islands which are habitable one season and totally flooded the next.
It will have wards, an operating theatre, a delivery room, a dental unit, an eye-care unit, a laboratory, a dispensary, an x-ray room and registration and administration offices.
Passenger donations will also fund the salaries of a full-time team of doctors, nurses and support staff, along with the facility's day-to-day running expenses, which will cost some US$150,000 a year.
Skywards Miles supports surgery
Paediatric Surgeon Dr Arnauld Delarue, a specialist in paediatric liver transplants, recently led a volunteer medical team to perform much-needed surgery on children on the Lifebuoy Friendship Hospital, courtesy of Skywards members.
Skywards Miles donated by members online were exchanged for Emirates tickets to fly the team from Paris to Dhaka. The team, which included Anaesthetist Dr Rose Fesseau and Surgical Nurse Carola Levasseur are volunteers for Humaniterra International, a Marseille-based NGO which sends volunteer doctors on short missions where medical care is required.
Earlier, Finnish Eye Surgeon Dr Sture Nyholm, was flown in from his base in Kenya using Skywards Miles. A volunteer for NGO Swedish Doctor Bank, he had performed 20 to 25 cataract operations a day over his 15-day stay. He said: ''Congenital cataracts among children are common-place in areas where there is malnutrition. Moreover, in the West, adults suffer from cataracts at about 80 years, while it's common in adults here of about 55 years.''
