SRI LANKA: ELECTRONIC TRAVEL AUTHORIZATION
As of 1 January 2012, all foreign nationals, with the exception of nationals of the Maldives and Singapore, will require an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) for short visits up to a max. of 30 days, when traveling as a tourist or on business or when in transit up to a max. of 7 days. Holders of an ETA will be issued with a Short Visit/Transit Visa on arrival at Colombo (CMB). An extension of 60 days and a further 90 days are possible.
The ETA can be applied for online at
www.eta.gov.lk, at an overseas mission of Sri Lanka, Head Office of the department
of Immigration and Emigration in Colombo or
on arrival. An ETA is not a pre-condition to board a flight to Sri Lanka. If an
ETA is applied for prior to travel, it is recommended to keep a copy of the ETA approval, to be produced at the port of
entry in Sri Lanka.
Fees vary, according to nationality, type of stay and place of application. The ETA can be paid for in the following currencies at Colombo (CMB) Australian Dollar (AUD), British Pound, GBP),Canadian Dollar (CAD), Chinese Ren Min Bi (CNY),
Danish Krone (DKK), Euro (EUR), Hong Kong Dollar (HKD), Japanese Yen (JPY), New Zealand Dollar (NZD), Norwegian Krone
(NOK), Singapore Dollar (SGD), Swedish Krona (SEK), Swiss Franc (CHF) and US Dollar (USD).
