Текст такой - Russian travelers vote for Laapenranta airport! We are ready!
Do-it-yourself traveling though Europe and the whole world has become more popular in Russia in the past 2-3 years. Of course, many people don't want to pay more for using services offered by travel agents, so they do everything themselves – from buying airline tickets to booking accommodation.
You are surely aware of sky-high fares that Russian and foreign (Air France, CZA, British Airways, Iberia) carriers offer for flights to Europe. This made us start using low cost flights originating from the Baltic States (Riga, Tallinn) and Finland (Helsinki, Tampere).
We believe it is hardly possible to agree with Saint-Petersburg and Moscow airports on the current low cost terms in the near future. Airports aren’t ready for low cost services and frequent flight circulation. We are also aware of all issues related to obtaining Russian visas and Open skies.
We are willing to pay for our luggage, seat selection and airport check-in; we also know that it’s cheaper to choose smaller airports and take early morning or late night flights. With all this in mind, we still prefer this way of flying - which means no flight delays, cheap fares, and the opportunity to choose the services we need. We would like to assure you that it’s all about travelers’ enthusiasm, with no advertising or marketing plans involved. You can find discussions about Ryanair, easyJet, SkyEurope etc. on hundreds of discussion boards and social networks. Low cost carriers attract all sorts of people - managers, software specialists, constructors and cat owners. Everyone knows money’s worth.
We think that the best solution would be using an airport located in a Schengen country as close as possible to the Russian border. This kind of discussion has been around for a very long time. Starting from 2005, every now and then we’ve been hearing about the airport in Lappeenranta, the town on the border between Russia and Finland, just 200 km from Saint-Petersburg (with a population of 5 million people, about the same as in Finland). People were really enthusiastic about this because Lappeenranta is 350 km closer than Tampere and 200 km closer than Helsinki. About 500,000 Schengen multi visas are issued in Saint-Petersburg annually, most of them come from the Finish Consulate. Today there are minibus routes to Lappeenranta. And it would probably be fun for you to know that a taxi to the Saint-Petersburg airport and a ride to Lappeenranta cost about the same - 15 euros one way.
As I have already mentioned, we are familiar with low cost policies like no refund, pay only for the services you really need etc. and we are willing to accept them.
To get some substantiating facts, I sent this poll to several tourist sites and got over 1,300 responses. Please take a look at the results:
Definitely would use

93%
Probably would use
75
6%
Probably would not use
16
1%
Definitely would not use

As you can see, a vast majority of respondents would use the airport in Lappeenranta. I would send you detailed results of the survey if you provide your email.
To sum up:
We are willing to fly from Lappeenranta, we are willing to fly often and enjoy fair prices. Low cost flights from Lappeenranta would be the best solution during the recession, and we would really appreciate this. And what’s more, being closer to Russia would be a great opportunity for you as well. It would be great if your share your vision on Lappeenranta perspectives.
Best, with hope for positive feedback
Thousands of Russian travelers, Andrew Novoselsky
