Первое, что приходит в голову - байки кому-то помешали (тому же владельцу пиццерии) и их скопом отогнали куда-то неподалеку.
Police bust motorcycle theft syndicate
Motorcycle theft in the northern province of Chiang Mai has increased, with more than 100 motorcycles stolen each month from April to June this year. We have more details in this report from Thai News Agency.
This 31-year-old musician was stunned and rushed to the police station when he found his motorcycle, locked up securely and parked at his apartment, was gone. Two months later, the victim found his motorcycle after the police arrested a motorcycle theft syndicate and seized 11 motorcycles and almost 100 motorcycle parts.
The gang comprised of seven young students aged between 16 and 20 years old. The leader, a 19 year old, confessed to the crimes. His gang stole at least 50 motorcycles in Chiang Mai. He said there were another four motorcycle theft gangs in the province but he didn’t know the leaders of the gangs.
Motorcycle thieves normally drive a pick-up truck through desolate alleys at night. They target lines of motorcycles parked at apartments and hoist them into the pick-up truck. Some thieves use a skeleton key to replace an ignition key and drive the motocycles off.
Footage from a closed circuit television camera captured the images of a motorcycle theft, which took less than one minute to take a parked motorcycle without a steering lock. According to police, almost 400 motorcycles worth about 10 million baht were stolen in the past three months, or about three to four motorcycles daily. The figure doubled the record in the first three months of this year. The police could only retrieve fewer than 40 of the motorcycles.
Pol. Col. Panudej Boonrueang, Deputy Commander, Chiang Mai Provincial Police said “Motorcycle thieves work for a syndicate. They steal motorcycles and others are hired to ride them to border areas. Other members in their gang contact buyers in neighbouring countries to pick up the goods.”
Police said the thieves would sell stolen the motorcles to second hand shops, which would then sell them on to remote areas. A big motorcycle theft syndicate will send stolen motorcycles to neigbouring countries, at a cost of less than 10,000 baht each.
