Geiranger Highlights - GG19This tour will be operated in English only. Climb up the winding mountain road offering an ever-changing kaleidoscope of mountain farms, waterfalls, lakes and streams. From Lake Djupvatn, continue up the hairpin road to the summit of Mount Dalsnibba, where you will have a spectacular view of the Geirangerfjord. After a photo stop drive carefully down the same road. On the way back to Geiranger, stop at Flydalsjuvet viewpoint, then continue to the Norwegian Fjord Centre. The Centre offers a chance to experience the living conditions the people along the fjords used to live under. Continue to the North side of the fjord and drive up the Eagle Road to the famous viewpoint at Eagle Bend.
You are set ashore by tender to the pier in the centre of Geiranger, where coaches and guides are waiting. The small village of Geiranger is one of Norway's best-known tourist resorts.
The coach climbs up the winding mountain road offering an ever-changing kaleidoscope of mountain farms, waterfalls, lakes and streams. From Lake Djupvatn (translated to English the name Djupvatn means ("deep lake") you will continue up the hairpin road to the summit of Mount Dalsnibba - from where you will have a spectacular view of the Geirangerfjord far below and the magnificent mountain peaks all around. From the summit, 1500 meters above sea level, you will drive carefully down the same road.
At Flydal Viewpoint you will make a stop to take a picture of the ship far down on the fjord.
Next comes a visit to Geiranger Fjord Center, with interesting exhibitions from the life in the fjord. The Centre offers you a chance to experience the living conditions the people along the fjords used to live under. The slide show "From Mountains to Fjord" shows fantastic scenic pictures from Geiranger through all 4 seasons, on a three-part screen.
Coming down to the fjord again you will continue to the North side of the fjord to drive up the Eagle Road to the famous viewpoint at the Eagle Bend. The Eagle Road has 11 hair-pin bends and is carved in the mountain side. From the top you can see the famous waterfalls "De Syv Sostre" (The Seven Sisters). Return to Geiranger by the same road.
Note: Should weather prevent coaches from reaching the summit of Mount Dalsnibba, guests will be taken to the Eagles Bend Viewpoint only. Tour order may vary between coaches.Hike to Storseter Waterfall - GG22This tour will be operated in English only. The bus will take you from the pier to Westeras where your hike will start. Through beautiful nature on a good path you will walk to the Storseter Waterfall cascading down the mountain side. See the view from behind the waterfall. You will continue to Westeras Mountain Farm. Here you will be served coffee and fresh homemade waffles. After the break, Westeras Viewpoint is the next interesting stop. here you will admire the magnificent Geirangerfjord. Transfer back to ship. Note: Guests must be able to walk 5 miles over dirt paths and inclined terrain. Hiking shoes and appropriate clothing are recommended.
The tour starts from the village of Geiranger. The small village of Geiranger, with only a few hundred inhabitants is one of Norway's most famous tourist resorts.You are set ashore by tender.
The first part of your tour will be by coach, passing the octagonal wooden church of Geiranger and the biggest hotel in Geiranger, the Union Hotel. After approximately 10 minutes drive you will leave the coach and start the hike.
The first part of hike is a 15 minutes easy walk on country roads to Westeras cafe. The cafe is in one of the old buildings on Westeras farm, and has a beautiful view of the Geirangerfjord.
From the cafe there is a 30 minutes hike to the Storseterfossen waterfall. Parts of this hike are in fairly steep terrain and good footwear is necessary. At Storseterfossen you will be able to walk behind the waterfall!
Continue to Westerasfjellet Mountain where there will be a spectacular view of the village of Geiranger some 250 meters below. Returning to Westeras cafe you will enjoy coffee or tea and Norwegian waffles served with strawberry jam and sour cream. Walk back to Hole situated on the main road, where the coach will be waiting to bring you back to Geiranger.
Note: Guests must be able to walk 5 miles over dirt paths and inclined terrain. Hiking shoes and appropriate clothing are recommended.
Herdalseter Mountain Farm - GG40Departing Geiranger, your coach will drive on the North side of the fjord up the Eagle Road to the famous viewpoint at the Eagle Bend where you can see the famous waterfalls "De Syv Søstre" (The Seven Sisters) and your cruise ship anchored down below. From the viewpoint you will drive past high snow-covered mountains and green valleys before reaching Ytterdal (Eidsdal) on the Storfjord. From Ytterdal, you will climb to one of the many summer mountain farms in the area - the "Herdalsetra." The traditional Herdalsseter is the largest mountain farm still in use in Norway. During the visit at Herdalsetra you will taste various samples of food made at the farm.
